2008 Grant H. Flint International Scholarship Awards Program

The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) has established the Grant H. Flint Scholarship Awards Program in an effort to promote education and professional development. These annual scholarships were named for the individual in Southern California who was the driving force in the formation of SWANA.

Eligible candidates must be sons, daughters, grandsons, or granddaughters of a Member in good standing as of May 1st. SWANA Student Members in good standing are also eligible for Category II, SCS Engineers and Montenay awards.

The three awards categories, value and number of awards are as follows:

Category I
Graduating high school seniors or graduate equivalent certified candidates who have been accepted for enrollment in a junior college, a four-year college or a university (any program) (3 awards at $1,000 each).

Category II
Currently enrolled full-time college or university students who are entering their junior or senior undergraduate year and pursuing a degree in environmental science, engineering or other suitable major related to the field of solid waste management (1 award at $1,000).

Robert P. Stearns/SCS and Montenay/Terrence L. Guest Scholarship Awards
Full-time students who are entering or are in graduate school pursuing a degree in environmental science, engineering, or other suitable major related to the field of solid waste management (Robert P. Stearns/SCS Engineers Scholarship Award for Solid Waste Management – 1 award at $5,000; Montenay/Terrence L. Guest Memorial Scholarship – 1 award at $3,000).

The Alaska Chapter Scholarship Committee will review the applications and choose one representative for each scholarship category to be forwarded to the SWANA International Scholarship Committee.

The SWANA Alaska Chapter has also established a local chapter scholarship for high school seniors. Submittal of the above referenced Category I application will automatically qualify for eligibility of this scholarship.
